The Asia Cup 2014

ASIA CUP

The Asia Cup 2014 cricket Tournament will start on Feb 24, 2014 in Bangladesh. The last match of the tournament will be held on Mar 8, 2014.
As per decisions of the Asian Cricket Council, the tournament is
being held twice a year since the year of 2008. The current champion of
the tournament is Pakistan who has beaten Bangladesh in the final match
at the Asia Cup 2012.
The next tournament was expected to be hosted by India who has not
hosted Asia Cup since 1990-91. The recent reports indicate that
Bangladesh will host the tournament since India has cited tight schedule
ahead and its inability to organize such a tournament. The schedule for
Asia Cup 2013 will be announced by ACC few months before its beginning.
The ACC Asia Cup is the biggest cricketing tournament in the Asian
subcontinent. The tournament had been up and running since the year
1983, when the ACC or the Asian Cricket Council was formed for the
promotion of gesture and goodwill among the cricketing nations of Asia.
Originally, it was decided that the tournament will be held once in two
years. The first tournament of the ACC Asia Cup took place in Sharjah,
which is located in the United Arab Emirates, in the year of 1984
The office of the Asian Cricket Council was based in UAE until the year
of 1995. The rule according to the ICC states that the games that would
be played in the tournament would be of ODI status. The Asia Cup has
been lifted by the Indian team for the most number of times. India has
been the champions five times, while the Sri Lankans have held the honor
as much as four times. India did not participate in the Asia Cup in the
year of 1986 as the cricketing relationships between Sri Lanka and
India were strained, and again in 1993 as the political relationship
between Pakistan and Sri Lanka were strained.
